I try to plan in the winter a lot, too. I have 4 kids ages 2, 7, 10, and 12. We do history together using SOTW, which I use as a starting point, but add a lot of books that I have found over the years to go with it. For science we use books from the library. For math I use a combination of Saxon for 2nd and 3rd grades, a couple old Heath Mathematics books for grades 4 and 5, and Life of Fred from there on. My kids love the Fred books. For reading, we just read. We read a lot, and we do it every day. We also use Happy Scribe Copy Books, Growing With Grammar, and a few hundred other books. I've got thousands of books and we use them all eventually
